Welcome to our Tournament page for the Frys.com Open golf tournament - now in it's fifth year at a new venue on the PGA Tour's Fall Series schedule of golf tournament events here in 2011.

  The tournament is being played for the second time at the CordeValle golf club in San Martin (greater San Jose) California.  The previous venue was at the Grayhawk G.C. in Scottsdale AZ where it was hosted the first three years.

This week Tiger Woods will headlining the field as he is playing his first event since the PGA in Atlanta supposedly fully healed - and honoring Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples request to play one more in the U.S. as part of his making the 2011 squad.

I suppose it's no coincidence that Freddy's former caddy is now going to work for Tiger beginning this week.  They'll also have the Australian Open and then Presidents Cup the next week in November.  

Joe LaCava unlike Steve Williams is a 'caddies - caddy' - much liked by the caddies rank and file on the PGA Tour - much like Fluff Cowan was - a regular guy.  Steve's a great guy and caddy - don't get me wrong on this - but he didn't mix much with the boys and part of that reason being during his caddy tenure that Tiger was bigger than life out there.

We all have doubts as to whether Tiger can overcome his dilemma - I still say it's all up to how his left knee holds up or not.  There's never in the history of golf been a golfer this world famous - while they were still in their playing days.  Tiger's task is greater than those before him because he declared early on that he wanted to break all the greats of the game's records.  

Nicklaus' major record being the most prominent which appears to be very much in doubt today.  Will it turn out that Tiger Woods will be 'too big to fail'?  Will the 'bailout' by Couples putting him on the 2011 Squad help spark Tiger back into form?

It's the beginning of Act III and the early scenes taking shape of this now very human and vulnerable Tiger Woods entering back into the arena 'upon which he once ruled'.  It's all unfolding like one of the great works of a Shakespearean Play.  

Will Tiger Woods III - have a Tragic Comedic ending or not?  In this next year we will see as the story lines unfold. 

There are 132 players in the field some trying to keep their playing card by making enough money in the 'Fall Series' to achieve 125 or better on the 2011 PGA Tour money list keep their 'cards' and gain playing priveleges for the 2011 season.  

Others are trying to better their year and status and maybe, just maybe win one before their done in 2011 here at CordeValle.
