Welcome
to CaddyBytes.com’s Tournament's page for
the 2011 PGA Grand Slam of golf tournament.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is the
world's most exclusive post regular season men's professional golf tournament.
It is an annual off-season golf tournament contested by the year's winners of
the four major golf championships, which are the Masters, the U.S. Open, the
British Open, and the PGA Championship. The competition is organized by the PGA
of America with the prize money as unofficial earnings .
The tournament began in 1979 and
has been played as a 2-day, 36-hole stroke play competition, with the exception
of 1998 and 1999 when it was played as match play. Prior to 1991, the event was
played as a 1-day, 18-hole stroke play competition. If a player wins more than
one major in a calendar year or a player declines the invitation to play, the
PGA of America will fill the four-man field by inviting the former major
winner(s) with the best overall finishes in that year's majors.
The venue for the Grand Slam was
to play at a different golf course each year, until 1994 through 2006 where the
event was staged at the Poipu Bay Golf Course in Loloa Hawaii. Then beginning in
2007 the event shifted to the Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda where it is held here in
2009 with that venue moving to the Port Royal Golf Course for 2009 - 10 and
again here in 2011.
The winners of the 2011 major championships are the criteria for playing in the
Grand Slam of Golf. Here in 2011 competing will be the 2011 Masters
Champion Charles Schwartzel, the 2011
United States Open Champions Rory McIlroy, the 2011 British Open
Champion Darren Clarke, and the 2011
PGA Champion Keegan Bradley.
