Welcome to
our tournament page the
2012 Senior British Open Golf Championship
tournament.
Muirfield in Gullane Scotland was the host course in 2007 with Royal Troon
hosting in 2008. Last year' Sunningdale hosted the championship for the
first time as did Carnoustie in 2010, and so will Walton Heath here in 2011 for the first
time.
Previously, Turnberry's Alisa Course hosted 6 times, Royal Portrush 5, Royal County
Down three, and Royal Lytham and St. Annes four times, since the tournaments
inception in 1987.The
Senior Open Championship is run by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews
Scotland.
The Senior British Open was first held in 1987 and is an official money event
recognized by the Champions Tour as well as the European Senior Tour. In
2003 The Senior Open Championship was designated as a fifth major on the
Champions Tour.
Past champions of the Senior British Open include Gary Player, Bob Charles, Tom
Watson, Brian Barnes, and Christy O'Connor Jr., Loren Roberts, and Tom Watson
with Loren Roberts defending
champion here in 2010.
