Welcome to CaddyBytes.comís Tournament's page for the 2014 Sony Open in Hawaii golf tournament!  Formerly the 'Hawaiian Open' by various sponsors over the years.  The Sony Open has been played at Waialae Country Club since 1965.

The Sony Open marks the first official full field event in 2014 and is a continuation of the new PGA Tour & FedExCup season's which now begin & end Oct 1st of each year.  Last week's Hyundai at Kapalua was the first event in 2014 but only tournament winners from the previous year gain eligibility to play there.

This is a 144 player field and unlike in the old days is now devoid of big names playing here this week.  The tournament also went to the Tour's subsidiary tournament coverage and is only available on cable on the Golf Channel back to the mainland. The up side to all of that will be the bitter cold back east and certainly most golf nuts will tune in due to the late live coverage and five hour time difference.

There have been some great champions past in the history of the Sony 'Hawaiian' Open in Honolulu including Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, and Ben Crenshaw as well as a couple of 'locals' -native  Hawaiian's Ted Makalena and David Iishi.

David Toms won the 2006 Sony Open.  Paul Goydos got it done in 2007 and K.J. Choi won the Sony Open in 2008.  Zach Johnson won in 2009 Ryan Palmer in 2010, Mark Wilson in 2011, with Johnson Wagner winning in 2012 and Russell Henley winning his first event here and defending this week in 2014.
