Welcome to Caddybytes.com's Tour in digital picture postcards of the Old Course
at the St. Andrews Golf Links in St. Andrews Scotland -the home of golf!
The
Old Course at the St. Andrews golf links renowned as the most famous and earliest golf links
dating back 600 years to the 1400's when golf was first played there. The
St. Andrews Links was originally a 22 hole golf course that was shortened to 18
holes in 1764 creating today's standard design plan for all golf courses. It was 1754 when the Royal and Ancient Golf Club was founded under it's original
name 'The Society of St. Andrews Golfers'
Much of the evolution of golf came out of St. Andrews Scotland and the links
course. The Royal and Ancient (Club house pictured behind the first tee at
the St. Andrews Golf Links) -is now the 'holy grail' for the foundation of the
Rules of Golf and along with the U.S.G.A. in America is today the ruling body
for The Rules of Golf. The evolution of the golf caddy as well as golf club making had it's origination
in Scotland and St. Andrews played it's part in that early history of
golf. Old Tom Morris (a former six time Open Champion ) was originally
born in St. Andrews and had his club making shop situated in the town nearby the
18th green at the Old Course.
