Welcome to CaddyBytes.com’s Tournament's page for the 2008 Players Championship golf tournament played at the TPC Stadium Sawgrass golf course in Ponte Vedra, Florida.  

The Players Championship has been around since 1974 with the first Player's Championship held at Atlanta Country Club with 3 time winner Jack Nicklaus the first holder of that title.   The TPC Sawgrass Stadium golf course is now in it's 25th year as the host and permanent home to the PGA Tour Player's Championship and sometimes called golf's fifth major.   

Some say major championships have their own way of evolving and this one is too young to yet qualify alongside the U.S. and British Opens, the Master's, and the PGA Championships all with early twentieth century beginnings.  

But there is a strong argument on strength of field here and in 2008 with a wopping 9 Million Dollar Purse to boot!.  The Player's Championship annually boasts the top 125 exempt players from the previous year's PGA Tour money list as well as qualifications that bring the worlds best international players into the field each year.  

There have been some great champions in Player's Championship past that includes Nicklaus, Woods, Norman, Price, and Fred Couples among the notables.
