When
you're traveling to France for your golf vacation you must escape to Paris and
Versailles. Make sure that you include the Saint-Nom-La-Breteche
golf club one of your golf and travel destinations!
The Saint-Nom-Breteche golf club is a beautifully converted and spacious
grounds of an old 17th century chateau villa converted into 36 holes of
golf within the forests and fruit orchards of the original
grounds. This first picture (left) is from the front entrance looking towards the
inner courtyard of the old chateau villa which now serves as the
spacious clubhouse.
Saint-Nom-La-Breteche is located on the former villa in Versailles not
far from the famed Chateau de Versailles -palatial chateau to King Louis
the XIV of France.

Our
next look in the picture (right) is of a look at the fabulous clubhouse and
former chateau that is now the Saint-Nom-La-Breteche
golf club.
Our first picture
is of the 17th century 'chateau' that makes up the clubhouse of the
golf course of Saint-Nom-La-Breteche since 1959.
English golf architect Fred Hawtree designed the 36 hole layout which
has been host to the World Cup of Golf in 1963, the French Open in 1965
and 1969, and most prominently the Trophee Lancôme golf tournament since
1970.

In
the view (left) you see the 15th green looking back to the fairway
and tee in the distance of the long uphill 438 yard par four hole.
A well placed drive for the golfing professionals between two
strategically placed bunkers leaves a short to medium iron into a
long and narrow green.
Saint-Nom-La-Breteche
is hilly and tree lined and great variety of hardwood trees surround
the 36 holes here as well as the original fruit bearing trees that
make up the grounds of this massive former French Villa.

Here's
a view of the 16th
green of the 541 yard par five hole at the Saint-Nom-La-Breteche
golf club.
It's a tee
shot down a hill to a dogleg which bends back up and around to the left up
another hill to this undulating green
The golf professionals playing here in the Lancôme have a very birdiable par
five here and can reach the green in two shots given the right
conditions and correct shot making.
|
The
17th hole at Saint-Nom-La-Breteche
is a relatively flat slight dogleg to the right of 422 yards requiring an
accurately place tee shot.
This is a side view of the 17th green there from the week of the
tournament. (Lancôme) The green is well bunkered but receptive to
good shot making resulting in birdies.
Notice the variety of trees in the distance. There are firs, hardwoods,
apple, and other fruit trees as well as flowering trees and shrubs that make
up the beautiful grounds that once adorned this 17th century chateau's
grounds.

This
is the par 3 18th
finishing hole at Saint-Nom-La-Breteche
golf club looking from the tee of the slightly downhill 209 yard towards the
green
in the distance and backdrop of the clubhouse-villa in the distance.
Previous
winners of the Lancôme played here at include Arnold Palmer, Billy
Casper, Johnny Miller, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Seve Ballesteros, Nick
Price and others.
A victory played over this beautiful landscape is a prestigious title to
behold in this invitational golf tourney over the past 34 years. So
when you travel to Paris or Versailles France for your golf and travel
vacation, make the Saint-Nom-La-Breteche golf club one of your golf travel
destinations!
