East Lake golf clubThe East Lake Golf Club is located in the neighborhood of East Lake which is in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. East Lake Golf Club was the home club of the legendary golfer Bobby Jones. In 1898 the Atlanta Athletic Club (AAC) was formed. It was a very popular club and it gained 700 members in only four years. The director of the club's athletic program was John Heisman, the famous football coach who the Heisman Trophy is named after. In 1904 the AAC bought property to build a country club which included a golf course. Course architect Tom Bendelow was asked to lay out the course. In 1906 the course's first holes were built. It was initially only seven holes, then nine and in the summer of 1907 the course was expanded to 17 holes. Later on in 1907 the 18th hole was built to make it a full 18 hole course. Also in 1907, the first significant tournament was hosted at East Lake, the Southern Amateur. It was won by Nelson Whitney. In 1908, Tom Bendelow opened his "No. 2" course at East Lake. The course's recognized establishment date is 1913. In 1913, famous golf course architect Donald Ross completely redesigned the course. He was called in by members to make East Lake a championship course. In 1966 the AAC sold the course to developers who moved it to its present home in what is now Johns Creek, Georgia. A few years later in 1968, East Lake Country Club was formed. A group of members purchased the clubhouse and course and started operating the East Lake Country Club which was the original property now abandoned by the Atlanta Athletic Club.  The club located in the country in Jone's day had become poor and crime ridden South Metro Atlanta - one reason the Athletic Club relocated.  Into the early 1980’s memberships were cheap but the Donald Ross design remained a gem.  Then in the early 1990's Cousins Properties led by Tom Cousins, a big name Atlanta based real estate developer took over the property and redid the entire operation redesigning the golf course and selling memberships at a high dollar value.  In 1994, famous architect Rees Jones restored Donald Ross' original golf course layout and that is what East Lake looks like today. The club then worked with the surrounding community and employed caddies from the poor minority families surrounding East Lake and as well put money back into the community and the new and present East Lake C.C. was revitalised and reborn. East Lake is now the permanent home of The Tour Championship and also sponsored by the Atlanta based Coca Cola company.

The TPC at Sugarloaf (full name Tournament Players Club at Sugarloaf) is an 18-hole golf course, located in Duluth, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. The course, which was created in 1996 to a design by Greg Norman, has been the home of the annual AT&T Classic golf tournament (part of the PGA Tour) since 1997 until its' ending in 2008. The actual course comprises 27 holes, but only eighteen of them are used as to comply with PGA Tour rules. The land on which the course was built was formerly the O. Wayne Rollins family farm, where they kept purebred cattle and horses. The golf course opened in the spring of 1997 with its first week of operation hosting the 1997 BellSouth Classic. A few weeks before the club was to open the property was hit by a tornado damaging many trees on the first and ninth holes and damaging corporate tent structures around the 18th green.. The TPC at Sugarloaf is Private Non-Equity golf course and is one of the leading clubs on the nationwide TPC Network of 23 world-class golf courses owned or operated by the US PGA TOUR.
