Nov. 30, 2005: From 'Inside' the 'Fall Classic':

It's that time again for the 2005 PGA Tours Qualifying tournament East Coast Version again being played at the Orange County National's Crooked Cat and Panther Lakes golf courses in Greater Orlando, FL.  The 'Q' School as it is known is rotated from West Coast (Palm Desert, CA) to East Coast (Anywhere in Florida from Orlando to South Florida) in alternate years now after dumping late fall bad weather prone Texas and Northern California from the old rotation prior to the 'New Millennium'.

The 'Cad's' are mostly trying to make a check before the layoff and holidays and a shot at work for the 2006 PGA Tour Season while many PGA Tour veteran players are trying to regain the rights to playing in 2006.  (Notable caddies names are followed by who they've caddied for with success in their caddy past:)

Veteran Michael Allen who kept his card last year but not in 2005 is trying again now in his late 40's with veteran tour caddy Russ Craver, (Larry Nelson, now D.A. Weibring), on the bag.  Dan Forsman is back trying again after losing his card for the first time after the 2004 season with his loyal veteran tour caddy Greg 'Piddler' MartinJay Don Blake is back with his 'best mate' & wife Marcy on the light bag.  Young up and comer Danny Ellis is back with Mark Cranden (20 plus years and many wins) on the bag.  Neil Lancaster is at the school for the first time in over 10 years on tour with veteran caddy Mike 'Stump' Harmon (Davis Love & Lanny Wadkins); Clint Begay is working for brother Notah hoping to regain the 'magic' of their previous two PGA Tour wins together this week.

There's veteran caddy Terry Travis (2001 Players Championship winning caddy) with Per Ulrik Johansson, 'Alaskan' Dave Patterson (Jack Renner amongst many others) with Mathias Gronberg (the medalist here at 'Q' School in 2003), Tim Mork (Woody Austin) with Larry MizeScotty Steele (Masters win with Larry Mize in '87', Payne Stewart, Tim Herron), is working for Steve Stricker who's back at the 'Q' School for the first time since getting his card back in 1994.  Bob May is attempting to get back on tour with veteran caddy Steve Kay (Arjun Atwal and almost beat Tiger on May's bag at Valhalla in 2000), and Rusty Uresti is on Frank Lickliter's bag (they won at Tucson in 2003).

Veteran caddy Alan 'The Brit' Bond is trying to get his old mate Bradley Hughes back on tour, while Jerry Knapp is trying to do the same with Mike SpringerJimmy Springer (no relation to Mike) just missed the top 20 card with his old boss Tom Scherrer on the Nationwide and is hoping to get it done this week as well.  Kenny Butler is back taking a crack with Mike Sposa as is veteran caddy Victor Velasquez with Jose Coceres.

John 'Hoops' Herstrom
is back out caddying this time for Brian Henninger, there's 'Red' Barnell Whitlock with Joe Daley, Steve Duplantis (Jim Furyk) with Brendan Jones, Patrick Keeley (Jerry Barber, Neil Lancaster, & Lanny Wadkins) with Ron Whittaker, former tour player Steve Gotsche with Brad Lardon.  Veteran tour caddy 'classic' Charles 'Grady' Williams is working for Gabriel HjerstedtTommy Tolles, Jim McGovern, Jim Carter, and David Sutherland, all notables are amongst 167 who are trying to regain their playing privileges this week at the 2006 PGA Tour Qualifying School...
