Welcome the 2013 TYCO Skills Challenge National Media Conference call held Thursday Dec. 20, 2013.

The TYCO Skills Challenge will be in it's 22nd year of competition and is an officially sanctioned PGA TOUR Challenge Season event.

Tyco Golf Skills Challenge MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL

The 21st annual Tyco Golf Skills Challenge airs on NBC Sat. and Sun., Dec. 29 and 30 (4-6 p.m. ET, 1-3 p.m. PT, check local listings) both days. It is the only golf on network TV that final weekend of the year.

The event features some of the biggest names in golf, including five members of the 2012 Ryder Cup teams, competing for $800,000 in prize money. The teams are set as follows:

                                                • Justin Rose and Peter Hanson

                                                • Dustin Johnson and Keegan Bradley

                                                • Mark O’Meara and Mark Calcavecchia

                                                • Zach Johnson and Kyle Stanley

Keegan Bradley’s thoughts on anchoring and the long putter controversy

“I can’t say that I agree with their decision but I do know that they’re doing what they think is best for the game and I totally respect that. That’s not saying I agree with it, but I have faith in them that they’re trying to make decisions to help the game. I never heard this word “anchoring” until guys starting winning majors. Before, it was belly putters or long putters. This word “anchoring” has become a negative word. I just hope that the people, golf fans, my peers out on tour, look at me for my accomplishments not the fact that I use a belly putter. I hope that maybe in the next couple years, people will stop looking at us for using a belly putter and look more at our accomplishments on the golf course. This rule is a proposed rule, that hasn’t been put into effect yet. Even if it does (go through), I’ve got until 2016 till I have to make a change.

Keegan Bradley on his loss Ryder Cup loss in September

“I think that everybody has accepted it. Personally, there’s not a day where I don’t think about it. Not so much the bad of losing but the fun that I had on certain shots and remembering the feeling that I had walking to the first tee, remembering stuff in the team room. I don’t think I’ll ever get over the loss of the Ryder Cup. I really hope to be on many more teams in the future and hopefully win as many as we possibly can.”

Mark O’Meara and Keegan Bradley thoughts on Tom Watson as the newly-named Ryder Cup Captain for the United States

O’Meara: “To me he is a legend in the game of golf, what can you say? But I also made a point earlier that I was disappointed really when Larry Nelson didn’t have an opportunity. I felt that Tom has been a Captain and I think it’s great. Do I think he’s going to do a great job? Absolutely. I really felt that Larry, with his record -- and I understand that he’s not of the same era as Keegan and the young players -- but I was kind of pulling for Larry, to be honest with you. But I know Tom will do a great job and I know that players -- I can’t speak for Keegan -- but we all look up to Tom Watson, myself included.”

Bradley: “I think that Tom is just an unbelievable figure in the game and an icon to a lot of us younger players, as well as every player that plays the game. I can’t tell you how much I would look forward to playing for Tom Watson; I think it’s a very unique Captaincy this year because Tom has already been the Captain in one Ryder Cup. I feel for Larry Nelson because he’s got such an unbelievable record from the Ryder Cup, won three majors, and he’s had an unbelievable career and would be a great Captain. I think the choice of Tom Watson is a really cool decision and I think he’ll lead us, the US, extremely well. I really hope that I can play for him.”

Keegan Bradley on the Tyco Golf Skills Challenge Reverse Scramble

“During the reverse scramble portion, it’s very nerve racking because if you hit a really bad shot, that’s the best you can do. So you want to put it out there nice for your partner and then there’s even more pressure when your partner hits a great shot because it could be for nothing. It’s definitely a very unique experience. The reverse scramble is brutal because you never know where you’ll be playing from next.
