Welcome to CaddyBytes.com’s Tournament's page for the 2008 Shell Houston Open golf tournament.  The Shell Houston Open has moved to a new date on the PGA Tour's 2008 FedExCup schedule of events - now being played the last week in March and is the last tournament before the Masters.

This tournament has been around since 1946 with Byron Nelson emerging as the first winner.  The great South African Bobby Locke won it at Memorial park in 1947.  Then it was played at Pine Forest and Brae Burn only to return to Memorial Park in 1952.  In 1963 Bob Charles became the first lefthander to win on tour with his victory there in the Houston Open.

The tournament then moved to the Champions golf club for four years before being played at Westwood and Quail Valley before moving to a more stable venue at the Woodlands in 1975.  Then in 1985 the TPC East Course was built at the Woodlands has been the 'permanent' home tract until moving to Red Stone G.C. three years ago.

There have been some other great champions in Houston Open past that includes the great Ben Hogan, Frank Stranahan, Jackie Burke, Cary Middlecoff, Roberto Devincenzo, Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus, and a popular victory for Fred Couples in 2003 among others.
