Welcome to CaddyBytes.com’s Tournament's page for the 2011 TOUR Championship golf tournament.  The TOUR Championship began in 1987 as a year end tourney for the seasons top 30 money winners and has rotated the event amongst various golf courses and regions of the country in the past.

The East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta has been in that rotation since 2004 when it was deemed the 'permanent' season ending home to the PGA Tour's official season ending Tour Championship and now crowning the PGA Tour's FedExCup Champion.

Coca Cola is the 'permanent' sponsor of the event in the home of their origination; Atlanta, GA.  It was on these 'hallowed golfing grounds' in the early part of the past century that a sickly child by the name of Robert Tyre (Bobby) Jones whacked a stick and a ball down the dirt roads surrounding what is now the East Lake golf club trying to emulate the swing of the club's first golf pro there - Scottish born Stewart Maiden.  The rest of that story is now a part of golfing history.

The field for this year's Tour Championship is the usual number of 30 players 'winnowed down' from the 70 FedExCup qualifiers who qualify for being in the top 30 after last week's BMW Championship in Chicago.

Tiger Woods won the inaugural 2007 FedExCup Championship after winning at Cog Hill and again at East Lake that year.  Tiger was injured and could not participate here in 2008 when Singh won.  Vijay had already been mathematically determined to be the winner of the FedExCup and only had to complete four rounds played at East Lake and post a score for 72 holes.

Then with Tiger back in 2009 from injury he won the FedExCup with Phil Mickelson winning the tournament here that year at East Lake.  Tiger's been out of it all the last two seasons and this year failed to make the top 30.

The 2011 FedExCup and possibly the Player of the Year honors are on the line going into this year's Tour Championship. Last year Jim Furyk won this tournament on his way to become the 2010 FedExCup champion and Player of the Year.  Furyk didn't make the final field here this year and so can't defend. Who will win this event, Player of the Year Honors, and the 2011 FedExCup title?

Stay tuned to CaddyBytes all 2011 Tour Championship week long for the final FedExCup tournament news, results, stories, and interviews!
