Welcome to CaddyBytes.com's tournament's page for the
2013 U.S. Open golf championship being played at the Merion golf club in Ardmore, PA.

The U.S. Open is the oldest golf championship of national prominence in America with most all the greats of the game winning at least one to justify their historic resumes.  It is also known as the second leg in the Grand Slam of Golf.

All the greats of the game have won this tournament except for Sam Snead who very well may be the greatest of all time.  The last six U.S. Open champions have been Rory McIlroy in 2011 setting a record at Congressional and defending here at Olympic, Graeme McDowell winning at Pebble Beach in 2010, Lucas Glover winning at Bethpage in '09, Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines in '08, (his last major to date), Angel Cabrera at Oakmont in '07, and Geoff Ogilvy at Winged Foot in 06.

The U.S. Open will return to Merion here in 2013 where it hasn't been played since 1980.  You can bet the course setup will be tough.  Trevino beat Nicklaus here in 1971 in a playoff and the famous rubber snake that Lee threw out on the tee at the start of the playoff on Monday.  David Graham beat George Burns in 1980 to win his U.S. Open here.

This course will not be very long by today's standards but we can expect to see one of the hardest setups in a while for a U.S. Open.
