- The Players Championship Winner (multi-year exemption)
- Top finishers at the previous U.S. Open (typically top 10 and ties)
- Top players in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) at cutoff dates
- Winners of select PGA Tour events (full FedExCup points events may earn exemptions)
- Exemptions for top amateurs (U.S. Amateur, NCAA Champion, etc.)
- Local Qualifying (18-hole qualifiers held across the U.S.)
